The trick was getting the neck to work in a gas gun. I've made a half dozen subtle changes to reamer geometry over the last two years. Thus, the brass is almost always available. I don't know of many people who go about making thousands of rounds of either of those cartridges. The case is used almost exclusively by the bench rest and varmint hunter community as its the parent case for the 22 and 6mm PPC. Why? Great brass quality from Lapua and it's always available. The 220 Russian was chosen as the parent case. It had to be AR-15 magazine tolerant, and able to feed reliably from both a bolt gun and an AR-15 type rifle. The performance had to exceed that of a 300AAC loaded with a 220 Sierra at a velocity of 1050fps. The parameters were such that brass would be easy to source, easy to make, and affordable. 3 or so years ago I went on a little quest to develop a cartridge capable of exceeding the subsonic performance envelope of the 300 AAC Blackout in a similar rifle package. Hmm a 750 amax subsonic why you gotta go and do that?ģ38 KrAzY IvAn. is it a step backwards in ballistics? yup. The frontiersmen of yesteryears killed buffalo out to 1000+ yards with veneer sights and a 405gr bullet going a mere 1350 ft/sec. I also want to say some military forces around the world have 22 rimfire rifles for a covert ops. it was essentially a shortened 458 win mag with a heavy round nose bullet. I believe it was called the 458x1.5 brenneke. Like mentioned above the military has actually used such a weapon in vietnam. if I did do it High BC and heavy for caliber would be the name of the game. one should be able to coverty shoot targets to reasonable distances. not to mention these super High BC bullets on the market. with the advent of laser range finders, nice scope reticles and ballistic apps. What i'm referring to is a very quiet rifle that can accurately sling 300+gr's of lead out to 300-400 yards. I think sniper rifle is a very overplayed term. View Quote I don't mean sniper rifle in a literal sense. anyone have something similar? are they a novelty that dies off quickly or shit eating grin time after time? 338 spectre or a 35 caliber with similar dimensions but use the 22 nosler case shortened and neck turned rather than the 6.8 spc based bolt just to keep parts common. being that a majority of the noise is in the bolt of the AR I'm thinking a bolt may be more suitable.Īlso one idea that popped in my mind was a. Not sure I'd want it on the AR platform or in a bolt gun. I'd be open to a 35 caliber option as well. 338 wisper mold which should fit the bill. I've done the 300blk gig and although fun I'm thinking something bigger would be more enjoyable.338 spectre would be ideal as I have a 9mm and 30 cal can however I'm not finding too many. I've seen a few molds the nicest being a NOE mold that's a 500gr spritzer shaped and the guy I seen the vid did it on a AR platform in 458 socom. If I built something like this I'm leaning towards it having capabilities out to 300-400 yards.

I also own suppressors and not apposed to getting another if "bigger is better" I also have a registered sbr lower so that gives me two routes. I cast and reload and just about got this powdercoating figured out so it would be a fun and cheap rifle to shoot. Not sure why but recently been thinking about how fun a subsonic sledgehammer would be a fun item to add to the arsenal.
